LANGUAGE

It's amazing legacy of indigenous people who came to the islands a thousand years before European settlers. An example is the language, widely accepted by all citizens. In fact, people have two names, one in English and one in Maori. Here are useful expressions:

• Kia ora Tatou - Hello all
• Kia ora - Hello
• Tena koe - Greetings (a person)
• Tena koutou - Greetings to all.
• Haere mai - Welcome
• Nau mai - Welcome
• Kei Pehe you koe? - How's it going?
• Kei pai you - Well
• Tino pai - Very good
• Haere ra - Goodbye
• Ka kite ano - Until next time (until then)
• konei Hei ra - See you later
• Aotearoa - New Zealand.
